Anish Kailash Chauhan, a sweeper at St. George Hospital in Mumbai, tragically died after allegedly being neglected for nearly three hours despite seeking medical attention for head injuries. CCTV footage reveals Chauhan waiting in a wheelchair with a relative, but instead of receiving timely treatment from experienced doctors, he was reportedly attended to by interns. His family and friends are outraged, accusing the hospital of gross negligence and blaming the delay in proper medical care for his death.
A large police presence was deployed to maintain order and manage the agitated crowd of relatives and onlookers gathered outside the office of Resident Medical Officer (RMO) Dr. Ganesh Bhandare. The situation drew the attention of senior officials, including Zone 1 Deputy Commissioner of Police Pravin Mundhe and personnel from the MRA Marg police station, who arrived at the scene to help defuse the tense situation and restore calm.
Aditya Mahimkar, a friend of the deceased, expressed outrage and demanded accountability, saying: "Anish was left unattended for three hours, which is unacceptable. We demand the immediate suspension of the RMO, CMO, and Medical Superintendent. We will not claim Anish's body until action is taken. This incident raises serious questions about the state of government hospitals and public healthcare infrastructure. It's appalling that the medical system failed Anish, an employee of the hospital, and we fear for the treatment of other patients. We urge local MLA Rahul Narvekar to take notice and ensure the suspension of the responsible doctors. We will continue to protest and refuse to leave until our demands are met. If the police only file an FIR without taking concrete action, it will be insufficient."
